How your activity figures are calculated

Winners Enclosure Bookmakers shows you what you have staked, what has been returned to you and how long you have spent on the site. This page sets out exactly how each figure is worked out.

About this page

The figures appear on the Safe Gambling page and the Reporting page of your account. They exist so that you can see your own gambling clearly, and because the Gambling Regulation Act 2024 requires licensed remote gambling operators to give account-holders this kind of information.

Everything described here is how the site works today. Where the law will require more once further regulations are made, we say so in The law behind each figure below.

The page also explains two calculations you may not see as figures but which affect you: your total stakes for our check-ins and the operator's own report on your account, which you do not see but which is worked out on different rules from everything else here.

Example only. The figures and charts below are made up, to show what the Safe Gambling page of an account looks like. They are not yours, and they are not anyone's real activity.

Two phrases the law keeps apart

The Gambling Regulation Act 2024 uses different words for two different things, and so do we.

  • Money lodged in your account is a deposit. The Act deals with it in section 170. Our deposit limit is a cap on this.
  • Amounts paid to participate are your stakes: money you put on a bet. Sections 164 and 173 of the Act are about these. Staked, Amounts paid and the figures on this page are all stakes.

The difference matters. Money you lodge and do not bet has not been paid to gamble. And a deposit limit does not limit what you stake from a balance you already hold, whether it came from earlier deposits or from winnings. Section 164 of the Act is about a limit on stakes, for a period you choose. That is our spending limit, a separate tool from the deposit limit. It counts stakes on the same rules as Staked and Amounts paid below, and also counts a bet that is still waiting to be accepted.

Whose activity is counted

  • The figures are for one account: yours. Nothing from any other account is included.
  • A bet placed for you by our staff on your account, for example when you phone a bet in, is your bet. It counts in every money figure in the same way as a bet you placed yourself.
  • All amounts are in the currency of your account.

Days, dates and periods

  • All dates and times are Irish time.
  • A day runs from midnight to midnight.
  • Last 30 days on the Safe Gambling page means today so far and the 29 days before it.
  • The periods in the Amounts paid table (last 24 hours, last 7 days, last 30 days, last 3 months, and last 12 months) run back from the moment you open the page. "Last 24 hours" at 3pm on a Tuesday starts at 3pm on the Monday. "Last 3 months" opened on 13 October starts on 13 July.
  • The figures are worked out afresh each time you open the page.

Staked

The total of the stakes on bets you placed in the period.

  • A bet counts on the day it was placed, not the day it was settled.
  • A bet counts whether it is still open, has won or has lost.
  • A voided bet does not count. When a bet is cancelled or made void, its stake goes back to your balance and the bet drops out of the figure, including for days already past.
  • A bet that was offered but never accepted does not count. No stake was taken.
  • For a bet with more than one line, such as a Lucky 15, the stake is the total across all lines.

Returned

The total paid back into your account from bets in the period.

  • A return counts on the day the money reached your account. That is the day the bet was settled, which can be later than the day it was placed.
  • A return includes your stake. A €10 bet at 2/1 that wins returns €30: your €10 stake and €20 of winnings.
  • A losing bet returns nothing.
  • If a payout is corrected after it was made, the correction counts on the day it happened. A payout that is taken back is subtracted on that day.
  • A stake refunded on a voided bet is not a return. Voided bets are left out of Staked as well.

Staked and Returned cover different bets. Staked counts bets placed in the period. Returned counts money that arrived in the period, including from bets placed earlier. Taking one from the other does not give your winnings or losses for the period, because bets that are still open are in Staked with nothing yet in Returned.

Bets placed

The number of bets you placed in the period, counted on the same rules as Staked: by the day placed, leaving out voided bets and bets that were never accepted. A multiple or a Lucky 15 is one bet.

Time on site

The time you have had the site open while logged in.

  • While you are logged in and the page is the one showing on your screen, your browser tells us so once every 60 seconds.
  • Check-ins no more than 5 minutes apart are treated as one visit. A gap longer than 5 minutes ends the visit, and the next check-in starts a new one.
  • A visit runs from its first check-in to 60 seconds after its last. A visit with a single check-in therefore counts as one minute, not nothing. Where there is doubt, the figure errs on the high side.
  • Time does not count while you are logged out, while the site is closed, or while it is open in a tab or window you are not looking at.
  • Time does count while the page is showing even if you are not betting. It measures time on the site, not time spent placing bets.
  • Two tabs, or a phone and a laptop at once, count once. The time is per account, not per device.
  • Staying logged in between visits does not add time. Only time with the site open counts.
  • A visit that crosses midnight is split between the two days. A visit that crosses the start of a period counts only for the part inside it.
  • Time on site is shown for the 30 days, 7 days and 24 hours up to the moment you open the page. Part of a minute is rounded up.
  • A bet phoned in to our staff adds no time, because you were not on the site.

We began recording time on site on 9 October 2026. No figure can be given for earlier dates, and days before then show as zero.

Amounts paid

"Amounts paid" is the phrase used in section 173(5)(b) of the Gambling Regulation Act 2024. Here it means your stakes: the same figure as Staked, counted on the same rules, over five periods.

  • It is not your deposits. Money you lodge and do not bet is not an amount paid to gamble. See Two phrases the law keeps apart above.
  • Winnings are not taken off. It is what you paid, not what you lost.
  • Betting is bets on sports, racing and other events. Lotto is bets on the outcome of lottery draws. They are shown apart because the Act asks for the amounts paid for each gambling activity.
  • Each period links to your statement for that period, which lists every movement on your account in it.

You can view a statement for any dates in the last 12 months from the Reporting page.

Winnings and losses

Your Safe Gambling page shows your winnings, your losses and the net of the two for the last 30 days. The alerts described in The law behind each figure will use the same figures. They are worked out bet by bet, for the bets whose result came in during the period.

Each bet set against its own stake Three bets of €10. The first returns €30, which is €20 of winnings. The second returns €4, a €6 loss. The third returns nothing, a €10 loss. Winnings €20, losses €16, net €4. Stake Return €10 €30 +€20 winnings €10 €4 €6 loss €10 €0 €10 loss Winnings €20 · Losses €16 · Net +€4
Each bet is set against its own stake. Winnings and losses are added up separately, then compared.
When a bet counts A bet placed in March and settled in April. It counts in Staked and Amounts paid in March, and in winnings, losses and Returned in April. March April Bet placed counts in Staked and Amounts paid Result in counts in winnings, losses and Returned
What you paid counts when you placed the bet. What it won or lost counts when its result came in.
  • A bet counts on the day its result came in, not the day it was placed. A bet placed in March that is settled in April counts in April.
  • Each bet is set against its own stake. If it returned more than you staked, the difference is a winning. If it returned less, the difference is a loss. A €10 bet that returns €30 is €20 of winnings; a €10 bet that returns €4 is a €6 loss; a €10 bet that loses is a €10 loss.
  • We show winnings and losses as two figures, and the difference between them as a third. One figure alone would hide someone who won €2,000 and lost €2,100.
  • A bet with no result yet is in neither. Its stake is shown beside the figures, so you can see what they leave out.
  • A voided bet is in neither. Your stake was given back.
  • Extra returns from an offer, such as a price boost or "SP if better", are part of what the bet returned, so they count in winnings.
  • A bet staked from a credit we added to your balance counts like any other bet. We do not offer free bets.
  • If a bet's result is corrected, it moves to the day of the correction. The figure for the earlier period changes, because that bet no longer counts there.
  • Over the life of your account, the figures include every bet ever settled. Bets settled before 1 October 2025 were not dated when they were settled, so they count only in the life-of-account figures, not in any shorter period.

Winnings and losses are not the same as Staked and Returned. Those count bets by the day placed and money by the day paid, and include bets with no result yet.

Your total stakes, for our check-ins

We check in with you as your total stakes grow: a questionnaire at €1,000, a warning at €1,500, a pause on betting at €2,000 until the questionnaire is done, and a phone call at €5,000. What happens at each level is set out on our Responsible Gambling page. This section explains how the total is counted.

How the total for check-ins is made up €1,300 of taken bets and €200 of bets waiting to be accepted make a total of €1,500. €300 of refused or voided bets is left out. Taken bets €1,300 Waiting €200 Total for check-ins: €1,500 Refused or voided €300: left out
A bet waiting for us to accept it counts while it waits. A bet we refuse or void drops out.
  • It is the total of your stakes since you opened your account, counted on the same rules as Staked and Amounts paid.
  • A bet waiting for us to accept it counts while it waits. Otherwise a bet accepted later could carry you past a level without a check.
  • A bet we refuse, or that is voided, is left out.
  • It is your stakes, not your losses. Winnings are not taken off. It is a measure of how much you are gambling, not of whether you are winning.
  • It is worked out again after every bet you place, and again each night.
  • If your total falls back below €2,000, a pause lifts by itself. The total falls when a bet is voided or refused. You can then bet again, but a questionnaire we have asked for is still asked for until you complete it. A pause set by our staff does not lift this way.
  • Completing a check at one level does not exempt you from the next.
  • If our staff pause your betting, the pause stays until staff lift it. A change in your total does not lift it, and neither does the questionnaire.

Reminders and statements

We remind you of your winnings, losses and time on site at regular intervals, as the Authority's draft regulations describe. We do this now, ahead of those regulations.

  • While you are on the site, a reminder of the last 24 hours appears every 60 minutes, or every 15 or 30 minutes if you choose that on your Safe Gambling page. The minutes count while you are on the site, on the rules for time on site; a break of more than 5 minutes starts the count again.
  • Every 7 days from the day you opened your account, a reminder of those 7 days appears the next time you are on the site.
  • Every 30 days, a statement of those 30 days, the previous 12 months and the time since you opened your account. It is kept in your account and sent to your email address, whatever your email preferences, because the law will require it.
  • A 7-day reminder or a 30-day statement is not made for a period in which you did not use the site.
  • Each reminder stays on screen until you press OK. Opening another page or another tab shows the same one again; it does not reset the count.
  • The figures are fixed when the reminder is made, so it reads the same whenever you see it. They are worked out on the rules on this page.
  • We keep a record of every reminder, statement and check-in: when it was shown, sent and acknowledged. You can see the list from your Safe Gambling page.

The operator's report on your account

The operator and its staff see a performance report for every account, including yours: Total stakes, Returns, a WIN or LOSS figure, a Margin and commission. It is not shown to you. We explain it here because it is a figure about your gambling, and it is worked out on different rules from the rest of this page.

The same bets counted two ways Two €10 bets: A has lost, B is still open. The operator report counts both: stakes €20, returns €0, WIN €20. Your figures count only A: losses €10, net minus €10. B counts once it is settled. Operator report A · lost B · open Stakes €20 Returns €0 WIN €20 B counted as if lost Your figures A · lost B · open Losses €10 Winnings €0 Net −€10 B counts once settled
The operator report counts every bet placed in the dates chosen, open or not. Your figures count only bets with a result. Once B is settled, the operator's WIN equals your net loss.
  • It covers bets on slips placed between the dates staff choose. Returns are what those bets have paid back so far, whenever that was, including after the end date.
  • A bet with no result yet counts as if it had lost, because its stake is included and nothing has yet been returned. The figure changes when the bet is settled, even for dates already past.
  • A voided bet adds the same amount to stakes and returns, so it makes no difference.
  • WIN and LOSS are from the operator's side. WIN means the operator took more in stakes than it paid back, which means you lost. LOSS means you won.
  • Margin is the WIN or LOSS as a share of total stakes. Commission is worked out from it for the operator's agents. Neither affects your balance.

Once every bet in the dates chosen has been settled, the WIN or LOSS figure equals your losses minus winnings for the same bets. Until then the two differ, because open bets count in one and not the other. We check that they agree in our automated tests.

What these figures are not

  • Staked and Returned are not winnings and losses. Taking one from the other does not give your profit or loss; your winnings and losses are shown separately, worked out as described above . The operator's report on your account has a WIN or LOSS figure, but it is the operator's measure, not yours; see above.
  • They are not your balance. Your balance is shown on your Activity page.
  • They are not your deposits and withdrawals. Those are listed in your statement.

The law behind each figure

Section 173 of the Gambling Regulation Act 2024 sets out what a licensed remote gambling operator must tell an account-holder. Parts of it take effect only when the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland makes regulations.

What we show The law Position today
Staked; Amounts paid Section 173(5)(b): immediate access, through the account, to details of the amounts paid to participate in each gambling activity, over periods set by the Authority. In force. The periods have not yet been set. We show the five periods in the Authority's draft regulations.
Returned Section 173(4)(a): alerts, at intervals set by the Authority, detailing winnings and losses. The intervals have not yet been set, so no alert is required yet. Returned is not a winnings and losses figure. We show it so you can compare it with what you staked.
Winnings and losses Section 173(4)(a): alerts, at intervals set by the Authority, detailing winnings and losses. The intervals have not yet been set, so no alert is required yet. We show the figures for the last 30 days, and send the reminders and statements, now.
Time on site Section 173(4)(b): the same alerts, detailing time spent participating in gambling through the account. The intervals have not yet been set, so no alert is required yet. We record the time, show it, and include it in the reminders and statements now.
Bets placed None. Not a legal requirement. We show it because it helps you see changes in your activity.

The Authority notified draft regulations to the European Commission on 8 October 2026. They would require alerts while you are logged in, and every 7 and 30 days, showing your winnings and losses and the time you have spent. We send those alerts already, as set out in Reminders and statements. This page will be updated when those regulations are made.

Where each figure is worked out

For anyone checking our work, including the regulator, these are the parts of our system that produce each figure. Each is covered by automated tests.

Our records

We keep a record of each time the Safe Gambling page of an account is opened, by the account-holder or by our staff. The figures themselves are worked out from your bets, the movements on your account and your recorded visits, all of which are kept.
